ONLINE GROUP TURN TO RS CONNECT TO COMPLY WITH DVS LEGISLATION
A team of RS Connect engineers has worked with the long-established Online Group to ensure their vehicles comply with the recently-implemented TfL Direct Vision Standard (DVS) legislation.
Ahead of DVS’s introduction on March 1, RS Connect worked with the company to make sure that permits were applied for and in place ahead of the deadline.
RS Connect installed the full DVS system, comprising blind spot cameras, side scan sensors, turn left alarms, speed indicator modules and seven-inch monitors together with the required sticker on both 18 tonne and 26 tonne rigids and a range of tractor units. Formed in 1983, the Online Group initially provided daily hire of vehicles and drivers for multi-drop deliveries throughout the South East of England from its base in Dagenham, Essex.
The company has grown by offering a first-class service to local, national and international industries – particularly the automotive industry which, owing to its just-in-time culture and production demands, requires the highest level of reliability and consistency from its chosen logistics partners.
Under DVS, a star system rates HGVs over 12 tonnes based on how much a driver can see through their cab window. All such vehicles are required to obtain a safety permit if they want to operate within the Greater London area. Vehicles with a zero star rating must fit a “Safe System” to provide adequate indirect vision for the driver. The scheme aims to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041.
